| Core Tip |
For patients with obesity and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and one-anastomosis gastric bypass are more effective than sleeve gastrectomy for weight loss and GERD control, with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass demonstrating a 99% possibility as the most effective in GERD remission. Addition of antireflux procedures did not improve GERD outcome. It may also increase complications when sleeve gastrectomy is chosen, raising the question of whether or not an additional antireflux procedure is necessary. These findings provide more evidence to inform surgical decision-making for patients with obesity and GERD. |
