Core Tip The study by Xu et al explored the association of APOE, SLCO1B1, and LPA KIV-2 polymorphisms with coronary heart disease (CHD) in the unique Teochew population. Key findings indicate that the APOE ε2 allele and a higher LPA KIV-2 copy number are associated with a reduced risk of CHD. Conversely, and notably, the well-known risk allele APOE ε4 and polymorphisms in SLCO1B1 (related to statin metabolism) showed no significant association. This highlights the population-specific nature of genetic risk factors for CHD. While valuable for regional genetic insights, the study’s retrospective design and modest control group size warrant cautious interpretation and call for larger, prospective validation studies.
