Core Tip This article advances understanding of attentional switching dysfunction in major depressive disorder through a neuroelectrophysiological lens. By critically examining Wu et al’s dual-task event-related potential paradigm, it highlights novel evidence of P200 and late positive potential amplitude reductions as potential biomarkers of impaired attentional control and emotional processing in major depressive disorder. The study emphasizes methodological innovations enhancing ecological validity and discusses clinical implications for diagnosis and targeted cognitive interventions. It calls for standardized, multimodal approaches to validate event-related potential markers, ultimately bridging the gap between neuroscience and clinical psychiatry in understanding depression-related cognitive dysfunction.
