Core Tip A recent study report dynamic up-regulation of CD24 during hepatocarcinogenesis, improving alpha-fetoprotein -negative hepatocellular carcinoma detection. However, this study lacks functional validation, subset resolution, and mechanistic linkage to programmed death-ligand 1. Functional genetics, single-cell, multi-omics, and spatial analyses are needed to confirm CD24’s causality and therapeutic potential.
