| Core Tip |
Mucocutaneous melanoses are more common in dark-skinned populations, but they can also appear in the same areas in light-skinned individuals, perhaps leading to overrepresentation in the literature. When the lesions are diverse or affect different areas, they form what is known as Laugier-Hunziker syndrome, which may not truly represent a syndrome or disease. In our opinion, solitary lesions or those confined to one area should be called “melanosis” (such as labial, genital, volar, etc.). If multiple lesions affect two or more different anatomical areas, the condition could be termed Laugier-Hunziker melanosis. |
