| Core Tip |
Subretinal drusenoid deposits (SDDs) are an important high-risk phenotype in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), but accurate assessment of disease burden remains challenging with conventional imaging. This study demonstrates that retromode scanning laser ophthalmoscopy enables superior quantitative mapping of SDD extent compared with standard en face modalities and identifies additional subclinical lesions corresponding to early structural abnormalities on optical coherence tomography. Retromode imaging also facilitates phenotypic characterisation of dot-type and ribbon-type SDDs, highlighting its potential role in improved AMD phenotyping, risk stratification, longitudinal monitoring, and future imaging biomarker development. |
