Core Tip	Carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 are representative tumor markers of gastric cancer and are considered useful for detecting recurrence after curative gastrectomy. Postoperative elevation of tumor markers was more informative of prognosis of gastric cancer compared to preoperative tumor marker levels. Postoperative elevation of carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 was an independent prognostic risk factor for overall and disease-free survival.
