| Core Tip |
Peripheral arterial disease in type 2 diabetes was associated with lower superficial and deep capillary plexus vessel density on optical coherence tomography angiography and with substantially higher risk of intraretinal fluid and diabetic macular edema. The association persisted under a skeptical Bayesian prior and inverse probability weighting, and one-third of the PAD-intraretinal fluid association was mediated through deep capillary plexus vessel density. These findings support retinal risk stratification for patients with diabetes and coexisting macrovascular disease. |
