| Core Tip |
Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is a frequent and life-threatening complication in critically ill patients, making early risk stratification essential. This observational study demonstrates that elevated admission serum procalcitonin levels are significantly associated with SA-AKI and identifies a clinically useful cutoff value of ≥ 5.5 ng/mL with good diagnostic accuracy (area under the curve 0.82). Given its widespread availability in routine clinical practice, procalcitonin may serve as a practical adjunctive biomarker for early identification and risk stratification of patients with SA-AKI, particularly in resource-limited healthcare settings. |
