| Core Tip |
Lupus nephritis is associated not only with progressive renal dysfunction but also with significant bone fragility resulting from chronic inflammation, corticosteroid exposure, and disturbances in mineral metabolism. This editorial discusses the emerging role of fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF-23) as an integrative biomarker linking renal injury and skeletal impairment in lupus nephritis. Beyond its classical role in phosphate homeostasis, FGF-23 may reflect multisystem disease burden involving inflammation, chronic kidney disease related mineral bone disorder, and abnormal bone remodeling. Understanding the kidney-bone axis in lupus nephritis may support more comprehensive risk stratification and personalized monitoring strategies. |
