| Core Tip |
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the efficacy of extending the umbilical incision for gallbladder extraction during laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with large gallstones (≥ 20 mm). The results demonstrate that moderate umbilical incision extension significantly reduces both gallbladder specimen retrieval time and total operative time compared with a nonextended incision. Importantly, this technique does not increase postoperative pain, analgesic requirements, complication rates, or the risk of adverse scarring, suggesting that it is a safe and efficient modification for managing large gallstones during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. |
