| Core Tip |
This cross-sectional study of 98 patients with type 2 diabetes (196 first metatarsophalangeal joints) is, to our knowledge, the first to investigate the association between four triglyceride-glucose (TyG)-derived insulin resistance surrogates (i.e., TyG index, TyG-body mass index, TyG-waist circumference, TyG-waist-to-height ratio) and ultrasound measured cartilage thickness. Using generalized estimating equations to account for within-subject correlations from bilateral joint measurements, we found that all four indices were independently associated with lower cartilage thickness. Prospective studies are required to confirm these findings and establish causality. |
