| Core Tip |
In 512 consecutive pancreaticoduodenectomies performed over two decades by a single dedicated team using an identical standardized technique, 60-day mortality was 2.9% and overall morbidity 35.9%, matching international benchmarks. Although case complexity rose over time and morbidity increased significantly, mortality remained stable and lymph node yield improved. These findings suggest that disciplined operative standardization, and not procedural volume alone, may contribute to consistent outcomes, and that dedicated specialist units operating outside formal centralization frameworks can achieve reference-center safety in pancreatic cancer surgery. |
