Core Tip The emerging role of Müller cell dysfunction anticipating and worsening diabetic retinopathy is increasingly acknowledged. The altered redox balance in Müller glial hyperreactivity triggering the RhoA/ROCK pathway was widely demonstrated by Du et al with peroxiredoxin-2 (PRDX2). This article offers an overview of the PRDX2-related cytoskeletal reorganization and glial proliferation, moreover it suggests a different perspective above the conventional role of antioxidant enzymes and suggests also some future perspective for new targeted therapies to contrast gliosis effects and preserving neurovascular health.
