| Core Tip |
Metabolic-bariatric surgery improves steatohepatitis and can promote fibrosis regression; however, individual response remains difficult to predict. This review distinguishes established outcome evidence from baseline risk markers and hypothesis-generating mechanisms. It proposes an explicitly unvalidated three-tier framework in which routine clinical variables and basic non-invasive tests are essential, elastography and magnetic resonance methods are optional, and genetics, multi-omics, and machine learning remain research tools. Monitoring can identify an incomplete trajectory; treatment should follow approved indications and specialist assessment until surgery-specific prediction models are externally validated. |
