Core Tip This retrospective propensity score-matched cohort study found that adding acupuncture to escitalopram was associated with greater improvements in depression, fatigue, and sleep quality than escitalopram alone. The parallel changes in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal hormones, NLRP3-related markers, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and P300 generate hypotheses for future research but should be regarded as exploratory associative findings. The main clinical implication is that acupuncture may be a feasible adjunct for patients with persistent fatigue and insomnia despite pharmacotherapy, pending confirmation in randomized trials.
