| Core Tip |
This review evaluates artificial intelligence through a disability-pathway lens rather than by algorithmic accuracy alone. Evidence is most mature for diabetic retinopathy, diabetic foot complications, and diabetic kidney disease, where artificial intelligence can support earlier detection and risk stratification. Evidence is substantially weaker for neuropathy-related falls, frailty, sarcopenia, and cognitive decline. Across pathways, prediction should not be equated with prevention: Clinical value depends on external validation, calibration, transportability, workflow integration, and prospective evidence that artificial intelligence-supported decisions reduce meaningful disability outcomes. |
