Core Tip Relapse prediction in remitted major depressive disorder has usually been framed as a single binary classification problem. This review argues that prevention instead requires a sequence of clinical decisions: Who needs closer follow-up, when behaviour deviates from a personal baseline, and whether that deviation warrants action. We organise current evidence into a proposed Stratify-Monitor-Confirm framework. Baseline data configure monitoring intensity; passive sensing, brief repeated self-report, or both detect within-person drift; and triggered assessment confirms clinical meaning. This staged structure clarifies why different data sources should be evaluated against different clinical questions.
