| Core Tip |
Dysbiosis is a key concept in modern medicine and has been linked to the pathophysiology of many gastrointestinal diseases. The dysbiosis concept remains poorly defined, and its scientific utility is limited by five major limitations. In this review, we propose five complementary dimensions to traditional dysbiosis and construct an integrative hierarchical model linking host characteristics and microbial community structure and function to disease outcomes. |
