| Core Tip |
Alterations in lipid metabolism are consistently associated with cirrhosis-associated immune dysfunction, but their causal roles remain incompletely defined. This narrative review distinguishes direct cirrhosis-specific evidence - currently strongest for selected pathways such as prostaglandin E2-mediated monocyte dysfunction - from associative findings and mechanisms inferred from experimental or non-cirrhotic settings. Clarifying these levels of evidence may help guide future biomarker development and the evaluation of immunometabolism therapeutic strategies in cirrhosis. |
