| Core Tip |
Cytosolic branched-chain amino acid transaminase (BACT) 1 links branched-chain amino acid-derived nitrogen transfer to uridine monophosphate production and vimentin stabilization in colorectal cancer cell lines and mouse dissemination models. Human tumor studies associate BCAT isoform expression with pathological features and survival. Patient-derived replication, intracellular ligand occupancy and selective intervention remain unresolved. Circulating BACT1/IKZF1 methylation assays measure tumor-associated DNA and address detection and surveillance. Connecting enzyme localization, nitrogen transfer and vimentin-dependent invasion in patient-derived tumors is the next step toward assessing therapeutic utility. |
