| Core Tip |
Continued passage of flatus or stool does not exclude incomplete large-bowel obstruction in patients with stenosing low rectal lesions. This patient developed worsening symptoms during polyethylene glycol electrolyte preparation and required diversion after nonsurgical decompression failed. Limited distal preparation subsequently enabled biopsy. Pre-endoscopic assessment should distinguish tissue sampling of an accessible low rectal lesion from whole-colon evaluation. Known or suspected obstruction requires evaluation before oral preparation. |
