| Core Tip |
Artificial intelligence is rapidly expanding the capabilities of colorectal endoscopy, but technological performance does not necessarily translate into clinical benefit. Computer-aided detection improves adenoma detection and reduces adenoma miss rates, whereas evidence for computer-aided characterization, lesion quantification, therapeutic assessment, and surveillance remains less mature. This review proposes a “pixels-to-prevention” framework spanning image interpretation, detection, characterization, clinical decision-making, therapy, surveillance, and prevention. The central challenge is to establish whether artificial intelligence-assisted endoscopy ultimately improves patient-important outcomes, including colorectal cancer incidence, mortality, complications, and healthcare utilization. |
