Core Tip |
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a significant liver disease with risks of steatohepatitis (NASH), fibrosis, and cirrhosis. NAFLD and NASH are closely related to obesity, the metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Bariatric surgery induces weight loss and improves the features of the metabolic syndrome and T2D. Surgery may reverse pathological liver changes. In the present review, we focus on the primary effects of bariatric surgery on metabolic pathways and systematically reviews the effects of bariatric surgery on changes in liver disease severity in NAFLD and NASH patients. |
