Core Tip Jones type 5th metatarsal fractures are a common injury among athletes. However, there remains a lack of consensus on the effective management of such fractures, especially in a demanding population group where time is often of the essence. Treatment recommendations often depend on the location and understanding of the fracture in addition to the patient's underlying state of health and other factors that influence surgical risk and outcome. The role of nonoperative treatment is still controversial, but surgical stabilization of metatarsal Jones fractures is often recommended for athletes and other high-demand population groups.
