Core Tip |
The arthroereisis (AR) procedures are common juvenile flexible flatfoot corrective surgeries widely performed. The AR procedures are divided in impact blocking devices and self-locking implants. Impact blocking devices [Subtalar extra-articular screw (calcaneo-stop)] constituted by a stem and a head, that interferes with the talus. Self-locking implants (subtalar AR) are inserted in the sinus tarsi along its main axis. Surgeon’s experience, implant costs and, cosmetic correction are the most common features in the orthopedic decision-making process. Both AR procedures improved clinical and radiological parameters. Considering the complications, calcaneo-stop screw recorded a slightly minor rate than subtalar AR. |
