Core Tip |
Self-expanding metallic stent placement is becoming a more common treatment approach for obstructive left-sided colon cancer, there is still ongoing debate regarding its long-term impact on patient prognosis. Stent expansion can result in the compression of blood vessels within the tumor due to mechanical pressure, may induce changes in the tumor microenvironment, potentially affecting patient prognosis. Our study found an increase in glucose transporter-1 (GLUT-1) expression in tumor tissues after self-expanding metallic stent placement. Tumor GLUT-1 serves as a prognostic biomarker for the survival of patients with obstructive colon cancer treated with self-expanding metallic stent placement. |
