Core Tip |
The primary goal of neonatal brachial plexus palsy is restoration of hand function followed by elbow flexion and shoulder function. The motor branch of the spinal accessory nerve which is used for suprascapular nerve neurotization innervates the trapezius muscle and the sternocleidomastoid muscle, thus it is expected the aforementioned nerve transfer impairs the trapezius muscle function. Our paper supports the hypothesis that the lower trapezius muscle has a dual motor innervation. This is an important issue as a functional lower trapezius muscle can be used for further musculotendinous transfer to restore shoulder function. |
