Core Tip |
Giant renal cyst abscesses are uncommon but potentially serious complications of an infected renal cyst. They often pose a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge because of their atypical presentation and potential risk for serious complications. The treatment of a renal cyst abscess entails a multimodal strategy that includes precise diagnosis, antibiotic treatments, drainage techniques, and occasionally surgery. These surgical principles guided the patient’s treatment. Notwithstanding, the choice of open surgical intervention was primarily influenced by the patient’s preference after detailed counselling on the relative size of the cyst abscess, lack of insurance cover for services payment, concerns about the possibility of recurrence after percutaneous drainage under ultrasound or computed tomography guidance, surgeon’s experience and vis-à-vis the feasibility of laparoscopic and robotic interventions. |
