This large-scale, retrospective study compares percutaneous and surgical treatments for World Health Organization cystic echinococcosis (CE) 1 and CE3a liver hydatid cysts over a 20-year period. Based on real-world data from an endemic region, the study highlights the safety and efficacy of percutaneous approaches, while also showing slightly lower recollection rates with surgery. Notably, the findings suggest that higher cyst volume increases the risk of fistula formation and prolongs treatment, regardless of the method used. These insights can help guide personalized treatment decisions and emphasize the need for standardizing follow-up protocols and recurrence definitions in future studies. |
