Core Tip This letter expands upon the seminal review by Sokal-Dembowska et al. It emphasizes the need to explore the functional consequences of microbial metabolite shifts and the complexity of Th17/regulatory T cell immunology in the gut-liver dialogue of inflammatory bowel disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. Specifically, it highlights how specific metabolites and pathogenic Th17 subsets drive hepatic injury and discusses the translational relevance of novel interleukin-23 and sphingosine-1-phosphate receptor modulators.
