This study shows that evolocumab combined with statin therapy can significantly decrease serum proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) levels, and it has a positive effect on depression in patients with post-stroke depression. This displays a strong correlation (r = 0.652), indicating PCSK9 as a potential biomarker of depression severity. Combination therapy was superior, with a 73.4% response rate vs 48.4% monotherapy (P < 0.05), leading to reduced neuroinflammation and improved cognition. Our data support the use of PCSK9-targeted therapy as a novel adjunctive treatment strategy in post-stroke depression. |
