Core Tip Sickle cell retinopathy (SCR) is a serious visual consequence of sickle cell disease that is frequently asymptomatic until late stages, making early detection difficult. Recent breakthroughs in artificial intelligence (AI), notably deep learning and machine learning methods, have improved the analysis of retinal imaging modalities such fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography and optical coherence tomography angiography. This review covers current AI-driven methodologies for SCR screening, diagnosis, staging, and disease monitoring, emphasizing their clinical value, limits, and potential for early intervention and individualized ophthalmic treatment.
