Key Words Lung-protective ventilation; Laparoscopic colorectal surgery; Bariatric surgery; Postoperative pulmonary complications; Positive end-expiratory pressure; Meta-analysis
Core Tip This review does not treat all lung-protective ventilation strategies or pulmonary outcomes as equivalent. Only two colorectal/rectal lung-ultrasound-guided individualized-positive end-expiratory pressure trials were pooled post hoc and exploratorily; different postoperative pulmonary complication and atelectasis windows make those estimates imprecise and non-confirmatory. A from-inception PubMed sensitivity search retrieved 108 records and confirmed that the operational 2022 cutoff excludes relevant earlier trials. Accordingly, the retained 13-study dataset cannot support routine component-specific recommendations or represent the complete current evidence base.
