Core Tip	Among 31274 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), 3880 non-HCC deaths represented 14.8% of all deaths. The proportional subdistribution hazards assumption was strongly violated, so adjusted subdistribution hazard ratios were estimated at 12 months, 36 months, and 60 months rather than summarized by one constant value. Older age remained associated with higher non-HCC mortality, whereas apparent associations for tumor burden and treatment reflected competing HCC death, patient selection, and changing risk sets. These registry associations should not be read as causal treatment effects.
