| Core Tip |
Clinically relevant delayed gastric emptying remains difficult to anticipate before pancreaticoduodenectomy. This study found that two simple preoperative computed tomography-based anatomical measurements - the thickness of the abdominal cavity at the celiac axis level and the vertical distance from the gastric fundus to the celiac axis plane - were associated with all clinically relevant delayed gastric emptying after adjustment for selected baseline covariates. The thickness of the abdominal cavity at the celiac axis level association was nonlinear and approximately U-shaped, whereas increasing vertical distance from the gastric fundus to the celiac axis plane showed an approximately linear positive association. These readily obtainable measurements may provide useful anatomical information, but the findings remain exploratory and require prospective external validation before clinical implementation. |
