| Core Tip |
Once-weekly basal insulin analogs reduce injection frequency from 365 to 52 per year. Insulin icodec, approved for type 2 diabetes in several jurisdictions including the European Union, Canada, and the United States, achieved superiority over daily comparators in insulin-naïve patients across the ONWARDS program. In QWINT-1, insulin efsitora alfa showed that a simplified fixed-step weekly regimen can match titrated daily insulin. Both agents increase hypoglycemia risk in type 1 diabetes. No head-to-head comparison exists. Implementation requires modified titration intervals, loading-dose awareness, and proactive sick-day planning. |
