| Core Tip |
In mechanically ventilated emergency intensive care unit (ICU) patients, 31 of 80 patients (38.75%) developed incident delirium after the predefined baseline window. The delirium group had lower regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) and higher neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR). In the parsimonious adjusted analysis, lower rSO2 and higher NLR remained associated with incident delirium, whereas total mechanical-ventilation duration was treated as a post-baseline clinical-course variable rather than an antecedent predictor. These findings are hypothesis-generating and may provide adjunctive bedside information, but rSO2 and NLR should not replace standardized delirium assessment with Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU. |
