| Core Tip |
In a cross-sectional survey of 4219 Chinese medical students, academic stress was associated with anxiety symptoms both directly and indirectly through a sequential pathway involving loneliness and insomnia, which together accounted for 70.4% of the total effect, with insomnia representing the strongest single mediator. Psychological resilience significantly attenuated the insomnia–anxiety association, and this moderation effect extended to the mediational chain, as reflected in a significant index of moderated mediation. These findings suggest that loneliness, insomnia, and psychological resilience may represent relevant correlates warranting further investigation as potential targets for reducing anxiety among medical students facing high academic stress. |
