| Core Tip |
Premature ovarian insufficiency, characterized by ovarian dysfunction before age 40, causes infertility, menopausal symptoms, and long-term health risks, while hormonal therapy does not restore ovarian reserve or fertility. Stem cell-based therapies show regenerative potential, particularly mesenchymal stem/stromal cells and extracellular vesicles, through anti-apoptotic, antioxidant, angiogenic, immunomodulatory, and paracrine effects. Emerging gene-modified cells and cell-free products may enhance therapeutic precision and translational feasibility. However, clinical evidence remains limited and heterogeneous. Future progress requires mechanism-guided optimization, standardized manufacturing and potency assessment, appropriate delivery strategies, and rigorously designed randomized controlled trials to establish long-term safety and efficacy. |
