Key Words Hepatology; liver diseases; Coronavirus disease 2019; SARS-CoV-2; Bibliometric analysis
Core Tip Between 2019 and 2023, the 101 most-cited articles in hepatology during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) period were analyzed, revealing significant insights. The majority were published in 2021, with the American Journal of Transplantation being a leading contributor. The University of Pennsylvania demonstrated a notable presence, and the articles originated from 44 countries, prominently led by the United States. Involving 160 authors, articles covered diverse topics, with therapeutic intervention and pathophysiology being the most prevalent. Males predominated as first and senior authors. A significant portion received funding, and a majority did not declare conflicts of interest. The bibliometric analysis serves to highlight key areas of interest, particularly in treatment modalities for hepatic impairment in COVID-19 patients. Researchers can leverage these trends to evaluate the effectiveness of different interventions in addressing hepatic complications associated with the pandemic.
