Core Tip |
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a mental illness characterized by persistent feelings of low mood, with high prevalence, suicide rates, and mortality. It is estimated that about one-third of MDD patients respond effectively to traditional antidepressant medication, while those who remain unresponsive to at least two types of antidepressants are referred to as having treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This case report describes the application of high-dose accelerated continuous theta burst stimulation (a-cTBS) in a patient with TRD who had previously failed to respond to conventional treatments, including medication and standard repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation protocol (intermittent theta burst stimulation). The outcomes of this intervention suggest that a-cTBS may represent a viable alternative for patients who do not benefit from existing treatment modalities. This case underscores the importance of exploring innovative approaches in the management of TRD and suggests that a-cTBS could be considered as a potential therapeutic option in this population. |
