Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry is a highly sensitive and specific method for detecting carbapenemase activity in Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) that shows strong agreement with molecular assays. Rapid and accurate results can significantly aid the diagnosis and treatment of carbapenemase-producing A. baumannii infections, potentially curbing the spread of carbapenem resistance. |
