Core Tip |
In this study, we explore the relationship between thyroid hormone sensitivity and diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Our findings indicate that a lower free triiodothyronine/free thyroxine (FT3/FT4) ratio is significantly associated with increased DPN incidence, affecting both large and small nerve fibers. The FT3/FT4 ratio serves as an effective predictor for DPN, enhancing diagnostic accuracy. These results highlight the importance of assessing thyroid hormone sensitivity in managing and predicting DPN in elderly patients with T2DM, offering new insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying this complication. |
