Core Tip In this study, co-word analysis method was used for the first time to study the subject trends and knowledge structures of gut microbiota related research fields from 2004 to 2018. Our results indicate that some subjects not fully researched yet and the emerging hotspots in the social network map can be considered as a direction of future research.
