There is conflicting data on the risk of pancreatitis with glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. We performed a meta-analysis of 68 randomized controlled trials of 11 different GLP-1 or DPP-4 targeted drugs. The incidence of pancreatic adverse events in the trials was generally low and we did not find any definitive evidence for pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer amongst the trials. However, we found a significantly raised risk of elevated pancreatic enzymes in a small number of trials that reported such enzyme elevations. |
