Transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2 gene; Patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 3 gene; Genotyping; Nutrient interactions; Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease; Genetic susceptibility |
Core Tip |
Various genome wide association and repli-cation studies across ethnicities have consistently asso-ciated variants in patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 3 gene with a higher risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). More recently a variant in transmembrane 6 superfamily member 2 gene was also associated with susceptibility to the disease. Functional studies have established the role of these genes in NAFLD. Gene and nutrient interactions should be the focus of future research in the management of NAFLD. |
