The role of completion axillary lymph node dissection (cALND) following positive sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) is being actively debated. Patients with positive SLNB performed at our institution who underwent a cALND were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analysis of prognostic and predictive factors were used to create a Preoperative Clinical Risk Index (PCRI). PCRI could help estimating risk to have extra positive nodes beyond the SLN in order to identify in which patients cALND could be safely omitted. Further prospective studies are necessary to validate clinical generalization for suggested tool. |
