Core Tip |
Sodium bicarbonate is a systemic alkalizer that increases serum bicarbonate, buffers hydrogen ions, and raises blood pH, thereby reversing the clinical manifestations of acidosis. It is often prescribed for the treatment of metabolic acidosis seen in severe renal disease. Studies have been conducted to assess the safety and efficacy of sodium bicarbonate as a pH equalizer. This meta-analysis aims to compare sodium bicarbonate with a placebo to evaluate the safety profile and clinical efficacy in treating metabolic acidosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). |
