| Core Tip |
Tumor microenvironment consisting of the cancer related fibroblasts can inhibit the tumor cell killing activity of cytotoxic T-cells. This activity is promoted by secretion of a variety of immunosuppressive cytokines, such as interleukins (ILs) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β). IL-1 has been found to be associated with tumor growth and its dissemination in the body. Similarly, other cytokines and inflammatory proteins such as IL-6, IL-33, TGF-β, nuclear factor kappa-B, IL-6, signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 pathway, interferons and toll-like receptors have been linked to tumor invasion and immunosuppression, creating conditions that facilitate tumor growth and metastasis. |
